For a tiny strip of “extra land,” Key West has found an appropriate niche as a frequented tourist attraction. Two by Four miles of strict eccentricity is now responsible for around a million tourists per year, all attempting the familiar escapism the island community was founded on.

Housing only about forty thousand residents, Key West has seen a pretty extensive facelift in recent years. Formerly a run-down, bummy haven for wayward souls, it has been transformed into a slightly more tolerable version of itself. There are now several guided tours, outlining all the quirks for you.

When in Key West, it’s hard to scorn the lazy, laid-back demeanor. Take a stroll down Duvall Street or a detour through the Bahamian Quarter to be fully enveloped in the boorish splendor. Key Lime pie and conch fritters, both island essentials, can be found at just about any dive in town.

Check out the Southernmost Point and the oddly profound Conch Republic before moseying back to reality.
