John D. MacArthur Beach State Park in North
Palm Beach, Florida is a nature lover’s paradise which encompasses
the pristine coastal and sub-tropical hammocks of South Florida. The
park is a haven for several rare and endangered plants as well as one
of the largest mangrove forests and estuaries in the area.
Visitors can get acquainted with the diverse Florida habitats at the
large nature center which offers several scheduled talks throughout
the week. Guided activities include bird walks, nature walks along the
many nature trails within the park, guided kayak tours and snorkeling
tours.
There is a 1,600' bridge which spans the Lake Worth estuary and mangrove
forest where visitors can see many species of birds, fish and wildlife.
Anglers can fish from the shore as well as from canoe or kayak. Kayak
rentals are available within the park for $25 single and $40 double
for a half day.
A boardwalk connects to the protected beach. There are restrooms and
showers within the park and stairs lead over the large, protective sand
dunes. The beach itself is a great place for snorkeling or diving as
there is a rocky area that is home to a variety of tropical fish and
plants.
The park is open from 8AM to Sunset 365 days a year and the admission
is $4 per car.
