White Clay remains a rare haven for the shrinking
forestry of Delaware’s coast, and those who appreciate it
are working to keep it this way. Newark’s slow development
threatens migration stopovers and the delicate ecosystem that
abounds here.
Hikers and bikers embrace the region, weaving through thickly
wooded paths, canopies, and rocky trail walls. In the winter,
there is sledding and cross country skiing along the same paths.
There are also a variety of interpretive programs designed to
educate the public. The importance of these havens is palpable
and those who care are working towards their permanent protection.
