Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge

Prime Hook is a diverse ground, offering visitors a variety of natural attractions and a good range of ways to take it in. The wildlife is rich and unique, moving inland off the shoreline and into the marshy outskirts.

Birds are possibly the most variant attraction here. Fall and winter see a good deal of migratory birds, making their rounds. Reptiles and amphibians are visible during the spring. And a rare specimen, the horseshoe crab, creeps up on shore during breeding season, early May. The latter is well worth checking out, millions of prehistoric creatures, huddling together on the shores.

Besides strolling the shores and marshes, you can jump in a kayak or canoe and cover about fifteen miles of the park by inland paths and streams.
