Despite being the capital city in this tiny state,
Dover is basically a large small town. Most visitors are merely
passing through en route to popular mid-Atlantic beaches or nearby
major cities. Its population is not really concentrated into a
“downtown” or certain district; instead it is spread
out over a large mass and generally uniform.
There are a few attractions on Lockerman Street, including some
age old taverns and the town green. If stopping through, you should
also check out the Johnson Victrola Museum, which is well-preserved
and quite engaging.
Besides that, Dover has the history you’d expect from an
early settlement. There is the Old State House and various museums
commemorating the town’s past. Dover is probably most comparable
to the antiques that can be found in shops lining the old streets:
historic, quiet, and all but forgotten.
