Beaver Valley Cave

Even a cursory analysis of Delaware's geology would be enough to indicate that caves would not be found in the state, yet Delaware does have one significant cave, namely the Beaver Valley Cave. Jack H. Speece documented this unique cave in a paper he presented at the NSS Convention in 1977.

Located less than 100 feet from the Pennsylvania border, Beaver Valley Cave was used by the Delaware Indians (who roamed the Delaware Valley for centuries in pre-Columbian times) for shelter from the elements. Archaeological studies were performed there in the 1940's, but it wasn't until 1958 that the site became known to the Speleological world.  Since that time Beaver Valley Cave has been "discovered", reported and mapped more than any other cave of equal size in the United States.
