Pachaug State Forest

Pachaug State Forest in one of the best New England outdoor adventure spots in Connecticut, as well as one of the state’s natural treasures. There isn’t much of Connecticut left that even resembles the wild, so the 28,500 acres of woodland, field and wetlands here are an invaluable resource for both wildlife and outdoor adventurers.

Of all the flora and fauna found in this Connecticut State Forest the native Giant Rhododendrons are perhaps the most impressive. It is quite a thing to see these magnificent plants in their native Atlantic White Cedar Swamp environment, and no visitor should pass-up the chance to take the short stroll past them.

There are many activities to enjoy here, like hiking the Blue Trail Hiking System’s many paths (it’s a short and easy hike to the top of Mount Misery, for example, to get a great view of the surrounding forest), or biking the forests motorcycle trails. Kayaking and fishing are popular activities as well, and the ban on motorized boats makes the water a peaceful place to be. Campers can pitch a tent here as well.
