Connecticut has many natural areas surrounded by state parks. These areas are beautifully preserved in its rustic form and have remained unspoiled since its naïve years. Limekiln Natural Area in Redding has 4.2 miles of trails, swampy and rocky, surrounded by varied species of fully grown up trees. The area is flourished with number of medicinal plants that include shrubs, herbs, vines, sedges, rushes and ferns. Folly Brook Natural Area in Hartford County is of great topographic significance to the state. It has number of natural attractions of cultural and historical importance.

 

  • Pond Mountain Natural Area
Nestled in the lush hilly stretches between Macedonia State Park and Skiff Mountain State Park, Pond Mountain Natural Area is a unique trail system connected with Appalachian Trail. It is located in Kent, Litchfield County in Connecticut. It’s quite engrossing to watch Fuller Pond, fed by a free falling spring. A circular walk way around the pond gets you a mystic glance of serene forest and trail loop. You can just walk down to Caleb’s Peak offering beautiful views of nearby Catskill Mountain. It may not be as large as the Macedonia State Park but great outdoor excitement fills this small area. Exciting mountain trail sets in the nerve for hiking amidst beautiful views of woods. Even watching the ducks, birds, turtles, frogs and fish is a fun to soak in. The clear water and soothing environs around the natural beauty of the pond makes it one of the most picturesque sites in Connecticut.

  • Saugatuck Falls Natural Area
Get into the charm and intricacies of pure nature at Saugatuck Falls Natural Area in Redding, Connecticut. Frequently changing terrain clubbed with number of well maintained trails make way for the most adventurous hiking. Saugatuck River flows through deep dense greens to open fields. A small waterfall of this river enthralls you no end. Environmental care is of due concern at this area.
