Located in the scenic Northeast Corner of Connecticut, Putnam is home
to a thriving antique district. It is the retail center for the neighboring
communities of Pomfret, Eastford, Woodstock and Thompson, as well as
many towns located just over the border in Rhode Island and Massachusetts.
Originally known as Aspinock, then part of Killingly, Putnam was carved
out of Killingly, Pomfret, and Thompson and named in honor of General
Israel Putnam of Revolutionary War fame. One of the first cotton mills
in the country was built here in 1806. With the availability of waterpower
and the opening of the railroad in 1840, textile industries flourished.
The place has some excellent lodging choices which offer service and
comfort at very affordable rates. The Kings Inn, the Quality hotel,
the Sturbridge Host are only some of the good choices here.
The choices for lodging are wide and the quality, service and hospitality
at any of the accommodations absolutely exceptional. All this information
is easily accessible on VisitUSA, the perfect site for preparing a great
Connecticut trip. Here, you can pick your choice of lodging at great
prices through its quick and easy online reservation and booking system.
