Camping sites are an integral part of all the 13 state parks and state forests in Connecticut. The state offers a large number of campgrounds surrounded by various natural attractions like streams, lakes, ponds, woods, loops and exciting trails. Just pick your selection according to your outdoor aspiration. The campgrounds are tamed with ideal spots for fishing, hiking, swimming, biking, boating and many other features. A combination of three parks – Wolf Den, Mashamoquet Brook and Saptree Run at Mashamoquet State Park in Pomfret offers special campgrounds for Youth Group Camping. Devil’s Hopyard State Park in East Haddam offers 21 wooded campsites featuring swimming, stream fishing, hiking and picnicking. Macedonia Brook State Park in Kent comprises 51 sites in 2,300 acres of woods. In this park you will find hiking at its best at the Blue Trail across Cobble Mountain and other peaks. While you enjoy hiking, the wonderful views of Catskill and Taconic mountains will certainly pump the adrenaline down your exciting nerves.

  • Salt Rock State Campground
Spread in 149 acres of wooded land, Salt Rock Campground has 71 campsites, both RVs and tents. Miles of walking trails, nearby river and other tourist attractions surround this campground located in eastern Connecticut. You can even have an easy access to various city attractions in Mystic and New London. Campsites are well facilitated with bathrooms, paved parking, dump stations, fire rings, picnic tables and water storage system. Salt Rock campground is actually spread in two sections and is the only campground in the state equipped with large number of modern amenities. You can enjoy showers in the restrooms. There are two in-ground swimming pools also. It’s surprising to know that the entire area once used to serve agricultural purpose. Shetucket River also passes through this campground leaving a water stretch of more than a mile. You need to require permit for fishing. The railroad divides the river and the camp area.
Salt Rock State Campground
Rocky Neck State Park Campground features 160 richly forested campsites. The park encompasses diverse trails, sloping beach and a large stone pavilion in the town of East Lyme. These features along with the number of leisure activities make this campground an ideal spot for family fun. Spotting herons, hawks, cranes or trying out fishing or crabbing comes with altogether different feel at this venue. Fire rings are provided at all the campsites. Location of Rocky Neck on Long Island Sound is the prime thing that makes it worth visiting. Clear waters, white sandy beach and multiple level terrains are the unique features spread in 710 acres of this campground. Picnickers have the whale of their time at the stone pavilion and attractions like Baker’s Cave, Tony’s Nose and Shipyard. A gushing river with high spring tides and the salt marsh surround Rocky Neck that makes up for the fulfilling eye treat.
