Connecticut has good number of worthy museums bearing historical, cultural and natural importance. Wadsworth Atheneum in Hartford is the oldest and the largest public art museum in United States. This castle-like building is home to French and American Impressionist paintings, Hudson River School landscapes as well as early American furniture and decorative arts. The Mystic Aquarium is one of the four US facilities where, steller sea lions can be seen. It also has one of the largest outdoor Beluga Whale exhibits in America.
The Yale Center for British Art at Yale University in New Haven holds the most comprehensive collection of Elizabethan period. Housatonic the Museum, located in Bridgeport, features about 4000 works of ancient and modern art. Children’s Garbage Museum, located in Stratford is an award winning museum and mainly runs interactive programs for children. David Ogden House in Fairfield is an excellent example of the early 18th century First Period Connecticut farmhouse.
