Connecticut has the number of well preserved erections in various historic districts of the state, which keep reminding of the bygone era. The Soldiers and Sailors Monument is built in 1887 in the honor of residents of New Haven who gave their lives in the Revolutionary War, the War of 1812, the Mexican War, and the Civil War. The Harriet Beecher Stowe House in Hartford is a beautiful cottage-style house, reflecting Harriet Beecher Stowe’s and her family member’s lifestyle. The Old State House in Hartford has preserved its original Federal style. The Fort Nathan Hale in New Haven is home to two popular historic attractions, including the site of a 1659 fort and a Revolutionary War-era fort. Quinnipiac River Historic District is a 313-acre historic attraction in New Haven. Cheney Brothers Historic District in Manchester is home to over 275 mill buildings and mansions in 175-acre area.

 

Designed by Edward Tuckerman Potter, an architect from New York City, the Mark Twain House was the home of Mark Twain from year the 1874 to 1891. It stands on the land area of 3.5 acres with seven bedrooms, seven bathrooms, a carriage house, and plant-filled conservatory. This house is Victorian Gothic , widely known for its major works from the time of Mark Twain’s residency that include the Adventures of Tom Sawyer, Life on the Mississippi, the Gilded Age, Huckleberry Finn, the Prince and the Pauper, a Tramp Abroad, Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court etc. After multi-million dollar renovation in 1974, today, it is serving successfully as a museum and is deeply dedicated to showcasing his life and work. Due to such historic significance, Mark Twain House was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1962.

The New Haven Green, also known as a New Haven Green Historic District was declared a National Historic Landmark District on December 30, 1970. Comfortably located in downtown of New Haven, Connecticut, it is a privately owned park and recreation area of 16-acre, housing the central square of the nine-square settlement plan of the original Puritan colonists in New Haven. Today, this beautifully designed park by colonist John Brockett has become a major historic attraction of the city that hosts numerous public events like - summer jazz, the Festival of Arts and Ideas, and classical music concerts etc.
