  • Airports in Connecticut

Though Connecticut features limited airports serving commercial flights, few among them provides best connectivity to major cities of the state. Bradley International Airport and Tweed New Haven Regional Airport are the only two major airports with scheduled flights in Connecticut. Most of the other airports provide chartered flight services.

Danbury Municipal Airport, Hartford-Brainard Airport and Roberson Field Plainville are the reliever airports in the state. Groton New London Airport and Sikorsky Memorial Airport in Bridgeport have small passenger terminals and check in counters. Groton New London does not have commercial service airline currently. Bradley Airport in Windsor Locks is located at equal distance from Hartford and Springfield. It is the only airport in Connecticut that sees both national and international traffic. Tweed New Haven Regional Airport, also called HVN, has been witnessing a constant upsurge in the passenger traffic every year with the growing tourism and business activities in the state.

  • Bradley International Airport
Bradley International Airport, located in Windsor Locks, 13 miles both from Hartford and Springfield, MA, is the only airport in Connecticut that serves national and international traffic as well. It is Connecticut’s busiest airport and also the second largest in New England.

The capital city of Hartford has the great advantage of being located near this airport as it has eventually boosted tourist influx to this town. It is also regarded as the Gateway to New England. The airport comprises two terminals – East Concourse including gates 1-12 and the West Concourse with gates 20-30.

Both civil and military aircrafts operate from here. On daily basis, the airport traffic remains busy with 350 to and fro flights providing convenient air-link to major cities of Connecticut and leisure attractions in New England. It also operates daily flights to destinations like Washington, Baltimore, Chicago, Philadelphia, Charlotte, Detroit, Dallas and many more cities of America.

  • Tweed New Haven Regional Airport
Tweed New Haven Regional Airport is one of the only two airports in Connecticut that provides air carrier service. The other airport featuring similar service is Bradley International Airport. Previously known as Tweed-New Haven Airport, it is just 3 miles from the business hub of New Haven. It was dedicated in 1931 as New Haven Municipal Airport, and later renamed to its first airport manager John H. Tweed. The airport saw a huge traffic of major carriers during its initial years of operation. Most of the airliners later switched its services to other larger airports of America.

As of now, US Airways Express and its affiliates operate at Tweed, offering regular flights between New Haven and Philadelphia. The airport also provides chartered services for the visitors willing to catch a glimpse of Connecticut shoreline from the sky. The general aviation ramp is filled with crowd during New Haven Open tennis tournament and the major events at Yale University.
