Overview ofHighline Lake State Park- Facts,Trivia,and Historical Information : Highline Lake State Park is open year round! Campsites are available, and the camper services building is open, with hot showers, washers and dryers. Highline Lake and Mack Mesa Lake are both frozen over, with 6"-8" of ice. Currently, there area areas of standing water on top of up to 8" of ice on both lakes, and Highline Lake has some open water. See the Conditions page for current information! Remember to ALWAYS USE CAUTION when going onto the ice! The ice fishing is good at Mack Mesa, and ice skating is a fun way to spend a winter day! Bundle up and visit Highline Lake in winter. At Highline Lake, winter is a beautiful, stark contrast to the other seasons. Mack Mesa and Highline lakes are frozen over, and the park is covered with snow. The air is quiet except for the many birds, hooting owls and barking, howling coyotes. Late sunrises and early sunsets over the lakes, on the Bookcliffs and on Grand Mesa, create colors seen only in the winter, at Highline Lake. A day of ice fishing is a good way to enjoy the peace and quiet, and the trout are biting at Mack Mesa! Visit Highline Lake, and enjoy some quiet time. If you prefer, try winter activities such as sledding, tubing, ice skating and snowshoeing. The ice is currently deteriorating with warm weather and rain - ALWAYS USE CAUTION if going onto the ice!
