Another tiny, ex-mining town gone ski-crazy, Crested
Butte is a little more out of the way than ridiculously popular Aspen
or Vail. The atmosphere is much more laid back as a result.
Way above sea level and crisp white in winter, it’s easy to see
why so many ski resorts started going up here in the 1960’s. Crested
Butte experienced a major boom at this time, and still attracts thousands
when the powder is ripe. The lifts climb high into rugged regions, providing
much more challenging and remote runs.
A variety of quaint shops, bakeries, and restaurants adorn the tiny
“downtown” strip. Crested Butte has all the elements of
a memorable vacation.
