  • Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area
Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area has six campgrounds–Ruby Mountain, Hecla Junction, Railroad Bridge, Vallie Bridge and Five Points Campgrounds - located ashore Arkansas river from north to southeast. The area is just 150 miles from historic town of Leadville. No matter which taste of water enthusiast you are, you will find every option from rapid to calm waters in different sections of Arkansas River. Boating, rafting and kayaking are the favorite recreational activities here. White water boating at upper Arkansas River is the most popular activity in entire America. Visitors do enjoy hiking, mountain biking, fishing and even gold panning on the banks of Arkansas.

  • Curecanti National Recreation Area
Curecanti National Recreation Area is formed by three reservoirs on Gunnison River. It encompasses Blue Mesa Reservoir, Morrow Point Reservoir and Crystal Reservoir. There are two marinas and three boat launches on the shores of Blue Mesa Reservoir. This recreation area has three visitor centers – Elk Creek, Cimarron and Lake Fork. Blue Mesa Reservoir is the state’s largest body of water. Morrow Point Reservoir is where the Black Canyon of the Gunnison starts. Crystal Reservoir features Gunnison Diversion Tunnel, a historic landmark. Curecanti has recently found value additions in the discovery of dinosaur fossils and traces of dwellings that date back to 6,000 years. With all these, no outdoor activity seems to be missing here.
