Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park

Gunnison offers nature lovers about 50 square miles of stunning natural beauty. The views here range from quaint to frightening and the activities available, and frequently attempted, are much the same.

From the harrowing cliffs and canyon walls, those with extreme grit see opportunity for adventure.

White water kayaking and rafting here are popular and amazing modes, but getting down to the base of the canyon is another story. A select few rock gutsy climbers descend the two thousand foot walls toward the Gunnison River. Challenging hikes exist in flatter portions of the valley.

For those not into risking their lives or families with younger outdoors folk, the park offers ranger-guided tours and interpretive programs along much more pleasant terrain. And it is possible to descend stretches from the confines of your car.

Any way you choose to explore the park, you will find a great deal of spellbinding geology and thick natural settings. Keep an eye out for native critters and be courteous while visiting their home.
