Don’t let the name scare you off; the Devils Playground
is actually a little bit of backpacking hiking heaven. This is one of
the best hikes in Colorado. A moderately difficult, 6.8-mile round trip
takes hikers up a sometimes aggressively steep elevation to 13,000 feet
above sea level. Their guest will be treated to stunning views of mountains,
from the Sawatch the Tenmile range. Peace, quiet and gorgeous rock formations
make this Colorado hiking experience unforgettable.
The trailhead begins at the Crags Campground near Colorado Springs.
Parking there is free, but those who wish to utilize the camping or
day-use facilities will have to pay for them. Every season except winter
is a good time to go, but fall visits will help to avoid the crowds.
Visiting hikers should keep a close eye out for loose rocks in certain
places. The trail is also open to bikers, dogs and horses. |
