Louisville Travel Guide

Incorporated in 1882, the city of Louisville in Boulder County of Colorado State is located at a distance of six miles to the east of Boulder City and about 25 miles to the northwest of Denver. This city was built by the coal miners when the Welch Mine, a first of the many coal mines, opened in 1877. Mining around Louisville was more-or-less seasonal as strikes often interrupted production leaving the economy generally depressed. Located in an area known as the Northern Coalfield, in all, at least thirty mines were located in and around Louisville, including the Acme Mine which operated on two levels directly beneath the original town of Louisville. However, the use of coal declined after World War II, and the last mine near Louisville closed in 1952. After having suffered through a period of extraordinary labor violence, Louisville now finally made a transition into a suburban residential community at the end of the frustrating mining-centric activities.

Presently, Louisville is recognized as one of the best places to live and raise a family in the United States by several noted publications and magazines. Several facilities are offered by the City of Louisville for the residents which include a Recreation and Senior Center, an extensive amount of open space buffer zones, 26 city parks, and over 32 kilometers of nature trails and bike paths. The $9 million Louisville Public Library which is having one of the highest circulation rates in Colorado State includes study rooms, teen areas and a unique fireside reading room. With robust industries in high-tech, energy and healthcare springing up in this region coupled with a dry, clear weather, little crime and low taxes, Louisville, in close proximity to Boulder and the state capital city of Denver, undoubtedly is one of the best places to raise a happy and healthy family within the state of Colorado.
