Sunny day at Mission Bay Park
At 4,235 acres (more than half of it water), Mission Bay Park in San Diego, California is the largest man-made aquatic park in the United States. Mission Bay Park receives an estimated 15 million visitors every year, making it one of the most popular San Diego attractions. This paragon of San Diego parks offers a wide variety of recreational activities. There are paths for walking and jogging, sporting opportunities and playgrounds for the kids. Fire rings make it fun and easy to barbeque or just stay warm on chilly evenings.

Mission Bay Park was born in the 1940’s in a tidal marsh named “False Bay” by Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo in 1542. Some 25 millions cubic yards of sand and silt were dredged to create the landforms of Mission Bay Park. Permanent residential development or any private ownership of land within the tidelands is prohibited, assuring that most of the land that makes up Mission Bay Park is reserved for public recreational use.
