The historic neighborhood known as the Gaslamp Quarter is located in downtown San Diego, California. Though there are only 4 actual gas lamps left in the district (1 on each corner at the intersection of Market Street and 5th Avenue) the area is named for the many gas lamps that once lined the streets.
This historic San Diego attraction is home to over 100 historic buildings, all within a 16.5-block area of the city. Many buildings date back to the Victorian Era, yet are still in use with resident tenants. There are also countless places to eat, shop and enjoy the nightlife in the Gaslamp Quarter.
The Quarter hosts numerous popular public events, including Mardi Gras in the Gaslamp and ShamROCK on every St. Patrick's Day. The home of the San Diego Padres, PETCO Park, can be found just 1 block away in the East Village in downtown San Diego.
