Mount Shasta consists of thousand foot peaks, four stacked volcanic cones, and a vast outlying natural area, full of the best California has to offer. Threat of a collapse is pending since geologists believe the last blast was over two hundred years ago.

Hiking the grounds around Mount Shasta is probably your best bet for viewing California natural settings. Scenic drives, train rides, mounted tours, and more take place around the base or through the glacial paths. Crags and drastic embankments can make for interesting hike/climbs through the geological wonder that is Mount Shasta. If you plan on making the full ascent, it is important to be prepared for quickly shifting weather and quickly altering conditions. Mount Shasta could be considered a moody mountain of sorts, despite its years of dormancy. The trails are tough but accessible. If you are in decent shape, it doesn’t hurt to try. The peak is quite rewarding.

Ensuing tourist traps and towns exist throughout the region for lodging and social exercises, or you can stay close to the cliffs at one of many Mount Shasta campsites.
