The Hollywood Bowl amphitheatre 2301 North Highland Avenue in
Hollywood, California is a world famous venue primarily used for
musical performances. It officially opened in 1922 on the site
of the natural amphitheatre that was at the time called the Daisy
Dell. It has been the summer home of the Los Angeles Philharmonic
ever since. The resident Hollywood Bowl Orchestra ensemble also
calls the Bowl home.
The Hollywood Bowl is best known for its distinctive band shell,
which is made of a set of concentric arches built in 1929. The
shell is wired for video cameras, and features 2 large screens
on either side, and 2 more atop the rearmost lighting towers The
famous Hollywood Sign is visible several miles away from the Bowl
site, to the north-northeast.
Numerous icon performers have played the bowl. The list includes
Cher, Frank Sinatra, the Beatles, the Who, the Doors, Pink Floyd,
Monty Python and Judy Garland.
