Griffith Park is the United States' biggest municipal park encompasses more than 4,100 acres of natural terrain dotted by California oak trees and covered in wild sage and manzanita. Few people realize that Griffith Park is also home to the famous Hollywood sign, which stands over Hollywood Boulevard on Mt. Lee. Griffith Park bears the name of its founder Griffith J. Griffith, who donated the largest part of the parkland to the city in 1896.

Griffith Park is located in the eastern part of the Santa Monica Mountains. There are many attractions in the park, including the Los Angeles Zoo, the Griffith Observatory and planetarium, a Greek theater with 4,000 seats, a riding center created for the 1984 Olympic Games, golf courses and tennis courts and much, much more. Scenic trails leading into the mountains provide splendid views of the surrounding area.
