The J. Paul Getty Museum started from the private collection of the millionaire oil magnate J. Paul Getty, and was housed for many years in a Roman-style villa in Malibu. Today this enormous, multi-level museum contains some of the finest art collections in the United States, and hosts traveling exhibits that rival any in the world. The J. Paul Getty Museum houses European paintings, drawings, sculpture, illuminated manuscripts, decorative arts, and European and American photographs. It is located on a hill in Brentwood, Los Angeles, California.

The Getty Center, designed by renowned architect Richard Meier. Much of the buildings and grounds are made of travertine, while other parts are made of dazzling white marble. The Getty Museum is closed Mondays and January 1st, July 4th, Thanksgiving and December 25th. An automated, 3-car tram takes passengers to and from the museum.
