Ukonom is a large lake partially maintained by a low dam. Please note that bears frequent this area, and also that the lake is heavily used by horse packers. However, fishing is generally good.

Elk Creek Trail from Sulphur Springs Trailhead (approximately nine miles), or Haypress Meadow Trailhead (approximately 10 miles).

before recreating or fishing at Ukonom Lake.
Non-motorized boats only. Packable rubber rafts, and float tubes are used by some fishermen in the wilderness areas. A valid California state fishing license is needed to fish within the National Forest. Licenses are sold at sporting good and other retail stores.
