The Mammoth Lakes are located in east-central California,
southeast of Yosemite National Park. The Mammoth Lakes area also includes
the Mammoth Mountain Ski Area (widely considered to be one of the best
ski resort areas in the United States) as well as the town of nearby
Mammoth Lakes. Also included in this general area are the California
lakes of Crowley Lake and June Lake, as well as Rock Creek Canyon, Devils
Postpile National Monument, June Mountain Ski Area, Bodie State Historic
Park and the Ansel Adams and John Muir Wilderness Areas.
In addition to skiing and other activities during both the winter and
spring, the Mammoth Lakes area offers hiking, backpacking, mountain
biking, climbing, fishing, boating, kayaking, golfing, tennis, swimming,
hot air ballooning, off-road vehicle use, fall foliage viewing, as well
as resort-town amenities such as art galleries, movies, museums, and
1st-class dining. It is an area of astounding natural beauty, with countless
opportunities for outdoor adventure year-round.
