  • Information on Elk Creek

    Information on Elk Creek:

Elk Creek provides a picturesque setting to view salmon and steelhead trout. Deep, clear pools give the Forest visitor a chance to swim with juvenile salmon and steelhead and occationally the adult summer-run steelhead or spring chinook salmon (July - September). Fall (October -November) is a great time to see chinook salmon spawning at the tailout of pools and riffles. Fishing opportunities for rainbow or Brook Trout can be found in most tributaries and lakes draining to Elk Creek. Due to conservation measures aimed at protecting Threatened and Endangered Salmon, the anadromous reaches of Elk Creek are closed to fishing at this time.

There are two Forest Service campgrounds along Elk Creek. The campground map or fishing map may be helpful in locating more information on specific areas.

    Directions to Elk Creek:

The Scott River has about 16 miles of public access as it winds through scenic canyon country between Scott Valley and confluence with the Klamath River. The entire reach is also paralleled by a county maintained road from Ft Jones to the Klamath River.
