California is an enormous state that runs a gambit of
climates, from the sunny coasts to snowy mountains in the east to the
barren deserts of Death Valley. The Mediterranean-like southern coastal
range is famous for its beautiful beaches and mild summers. The south
is far drier than the north in terms of humidity and rainfall, leading
to near year-round fire-hazards in the hills. The inland valleys are
extremely hot, as are the vast deserts northeast of Los Angeles and
San Diego. The climate in the Sierra Nevada and Cascade Mountain Ranges
are temperate to alpine in nature, with cold winter temperatures and
snow. |
