Davenport Landing Beach

DAVENPORT LANDING BEACH: Davenport was once a thriving whaling town, is now strictly a day-use beach, it is generally less crowded than many of the north-coast beaches and is a favorite for windsurfers. This little protected cove is open sunrise to sunset. (831) 462-8333

CLIMATE: Moderate to chilly in the winter months, with some marine layers during the summer and fall, lifting mid-day to sun. Layering is always recommended.

ACTIVITIES: Years ago, the tiny settlement of Davenport was famous for its successful whaling industry. Today, the cliffs of Davenport offer some of Santa Cruz County's best vantage points for watching these protected mammals during their annual migration. Along with whale watching, Davenport is noted as one of the primo spots for windsurfing.

LOCAL FLAVORS: Davenport is in Santa Cruz County and close to an array of other beaches, small towns and activities. Santa Cruz County is synonymous with surf, sand and sun! The beaches are perfect for building sand castles, learning to surf, playing beach volleyball, hiking along the coastal bluffs, feasting on a picnic, or going for a romantic sunset walk. Santa Cruz County's 29 miles of sun-splashed, fun-filled beaches offer something for everyone. From the striking exposed cliffs to the vast expanses of sand and sea, you are sure to find Davenport or any other beach a delightfully fine time.
