Mission Beach is located south of Pacific
Beach, off of Mission Boulevard. It is a popular place to hang out,
especially for the nightlife. The boardwalk of Mission beach is aligned
with cool shops and plenty of interesting bars. The actual beach is
not quite as beautiful as other San Diego beaches, but this is a place
to be if you are looking to party.
Mission Beach is the Venice Beach of San Diego. It is the best place
to come to people watch, especially on the weekends. There is a lot
of local flavor, featuring funky people with tattoo and pierced bodies,
flocks of casual surfers, the engrossed tourist and the array of |
people
who come to the 3 mile long boardwalk to jog, cycle or rollerblade.
Various shops, restaurants, and beach rental stores surround Mission
beach, at the foot of Ventura Street beside the roller coaster and inside
Belmont Park.
Belmont Park is another one of Mission beaches main attractions and
a fun place to
bring the kids. It is a beach front amusement park which offers a huge
roller coaster,
several smaller rides like, bumper cars and a merry-go-round, video
games, cool shops
and carnival type food stands. There is a huge arcade at the south end
of Belmont Park,
which has an Olympic sized swimming pool called “the Plunge”.
It is a beach that is fun
for the whole family.
Mission Beach water activities include surfing, boogie boarding, swimming
and kayaking. Much like the neighboring Pacific Beach, this beach has
fun and mellow surf. Keep an eye out for the signs posted designating
where to surf and where to swim. South Mission beach is the perfect
place to come play volleyball. There are courts set out and even a volleyball
club in the area.
There is an abundance of free parking available on the north and south
side of Belmont Park, and at the base of West Mission Bay Drive. Be
aware that these lots fill very quickly during the summer months and
on the weekends.
