Point Lobos State Reserve

Point Lobos State Reserve
POINT LOBOS STATE RESERVE : A reservoir of incredible beauty, Point Lobos remains untouchable in its variance of natural resource, marine and bird wild life and exquisite splendor. The name first given by the explorers as they viewed the offshore rocks at Punta de los Lobos Marinos, or “Point of the Sea Wolves,” where the sounds of the sea lions still resound inland. This is a wellspring of beauty and scientific discovery, as the resources are abounding, to include, a variation of plant communities, endangered archeological sites, unique geological formations and amazingly rich vegetation on both the land and in the sea.
CLIMATE : The climate varies from fair to sunny with occasional winter rains and dryer summers. From July through September, heavier marine layers resulting in the typical fog found on the ventral coast affect Point Lobos.

ACTIVITIES : Point Lobos is a basin of implausible natural splendor. Due to the rocky beaches, and the way it sits, most of the activities are centered on more passive recreation. Such as: Photography, hiking, jogging, painting, research, picnicking, sightseeing, SCUBA diving only at Whalers and Bluefish Coves with a proof of certification. The park is open daily at 9 A.M. and closes at 7 P.M. in the summer months and 5 P.M. during the winter. It is not for overnight camping. Reservations are highly recommended by telephoning (831) 624-8413 or E-mailing ptlobos@mbay.net

LOCAL FLAVORS : The park is only minutes from downtown Carmel by the Sea and close to all major hotels, bed and breakfast facilities and inns in the area. Carmel is a world famous seacoast attraction itself and a wonderful place to wander quaint cottage lined streets, stopping in its many art galleries, gift shops and specialty stores or dining at some wonderful local restaurants.
