MONTEREY STATE BEACH: This is a great beach
for fishing, tide pool watchers, surfing, kayaking, kite flying, scuba
diving, walking or just sharing a picnic lunch with someone special.
This flat beach spans three separate beaches stretching all the way
to Seaside. Each beach is approximately a mile apart from the other.
CLIMATE: The peninsula is known for moderate
weather temperatures, but with most of California’s central coast,
the weather is changeable and often predisposed to marine layers, resulting
in dense fog. Fog is more likely from June through mid-August and layered
clothing is advisable. Areas further inland experience more weather
extremes, with warmer summers and much colder winters.
BEACH ACTIVITIES: Because the beach is
so flat, walking is popular, or wading around the tide pools in rock
beds nearby. There is actually an underwater area of the park designated
for scuba divers and the fact that surfings, fishing, kayaking, kite
flying or volleyball are all allowed at this beach, it makes for a fun
place for families to gather.
Local Flavors: Nestled in the heart of
Monterey, downtown Old Monterey, the famous “Alvarado Street,”
Cannery Row, or the Fisherman’s Wharf are wonderful places of
interest! There are a slew of restaurants, galleries, museums to choose
from and the Monterey Bay Aquarium has one of the finest fish and shark
exhibits in the country.
