Location: Mendocino County, California
MANCHESTER STATE BEACH: A wonderful park with rolling sand dunes,
flat grasslands and about 18,000 feet of ocean front. There is
a large quantity of driftwood that rolls into this beach because
of the way it is laid out. Walking southward, the five mile stretch
of beach takes you to the Point Area Lighthouse, a great observation
point at this beach. The beach is named after the town village
“Manchester,” located approximately seven miles north
of the Point Area Lighthouse. The beach entrance is ½ mile
north of town on Highway One.
The park, which has a very pastoral feel, has a wide array of
coastal wildflowers, to include California poppies, sea pinks,
lupines, baby blue eyes and blue irises. It is a breathtaking
view during the spring months, after the rains have passed.
Probably one of the biggest attractions at Manchester is the
incredible steelhead and salmon fishing in both the streams; “Bush
Creek,” and “Alder Creek” that flow inside the
park.

MANCHESTER STATE BEACH CLIMATE: The weather in Northern California
varies and is cold during the winter months. Layered clothing
is recommended.
DANGEROUS WATER: While the beach is lovely, it is one of the
most deadly California beaches and because of this factor, swimming,
surfing and all water activities are strongly prohibited.
