Rodeo Beach & Trailhead

Location: Marin Headlands, CA

RODEO BEACH TRAILHEAD: A 4.3 mile loop on slopes above Rodeo Lagoon. There is plenty of parking in lots, with no entrance or parking fees. Wheelchair-accessible restrooms are located at the edge of the parking lot, and handicap parking is available. While there is wheel chair parking, the trails are not wheel chair accessible. The loop hike itself is moderately easy with some steep moments, but very doable for most. Total elevation is about 850 feet, ending at Rodeo Beach. A few of the trails are designated for horses and hikers only, but for the most part, most of them are for multi use and dogs are permitted on some, which makes for a really nice outing for families. The loop is a little more than a 7 mile hike.

Rodeo Beach is located at the far west end of the Marin Headlands. There is a picnic area adjacent to the parking lot and has a wonderful view of the surf. Unfortunately, the area is quite small; only accommodating around fifty people. During the summer months is on tourist overload. It is also a very popular place for educational tours during the school year. Rodeo Beach is popular with surfers, hikers, those who just want some serenity away from the city life of San Francisco, since it is so well-located and accessible. The trails within the trailhead make this a lovely relaxing stop. Rodeo Beach is a part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area.

Note* The Golden Gate National Recreation Area accepts reservations for up to one year in advance for weddings. They have a number of natural settings used often for weddings. As with any public park, a permit is required, regardless of the group size. For reservations and information call: (415) 561-4300

CLIMATE: As with any of the Northern California Coast, temperatures can vary and layered clothing is recommended.

LOCAL FLAVOR: While this is a wonderful getaway from the hustle bustle of the City, it is still close enough to take a Sausalito tour or visit San Francisco for a day or lodge there and as with any city, there are a multitude of things to choose from in the bay area.
