Redondo Beach is located off Esplanade
Avenue, in between Hermosa beach and Torrance Beach in LA county. The
city beach is situated south of the Redondo Beach Pier and encompasses
an array of beach activity including; a lengthy bike/jogging path, volleyball
nets, first-rate waves for surfing and a great park area to bring the
whole family or group of friends.
The Redondo pier borders the beach and
is aligned with several restaurants and fun shops. It is an entertaining
place to explore and grab a bite to eat off the sand. There is also
a park adjacent to the parking lot which offers fantastic picnic table
and a huge grassy area where many locals spread out their picnic blankets
and chow down. The park also has palm tree encircled playground for
the kids.
The adult playground is the actual beach.
This beach includes a bike/pedestrian path which extends along the beach
all the way to Santa Monica, California. This is a great coastal ride,
without the hassle of car traffic and stoplights. It is a nonstop, fun-filled
ride with a close up view of the Pacific. Redondo is also a mellow surf
beach. There are fun waves to ride but not too challenging.
There are a variety of events which usually
take place on the pier. In May there is a student art show and drum
circle. The pier hosts a spectacular fireworks display for the Fourth
of July, a crazy Halloween party on the 31st of October and some December
holiday activities.
There is a fairly big parking lot south
of the pier with metered parking available. You can venture out onto
side streets to find free parking but the residential communities are
usually packed with cars. It will be a challenge, especially during
the summer months. There is also parking available in the Redondo Pier
parking lot, with over a thousand spaces available. Parking ranges from
$1-5 dollars. The shops within the structure validate for the first
hour.
