Long Beach City Beach is located off of
Ocean Blvd, just north of Alamitos Bay. The city of Long Beach is a
mix of fast paced commuters in business suits and laid back beach goers
in bikinis and board shorts. The beaches are not as popular with surfers
as those in Orange County California, but Long Beach makes up for it
with their clean white sand beaches and miles of glorious bike trails
along the shore front.
The bike trail is definitely one of the
highlights. The path curves along the beach and is wide enough for several
cyclists to ride and also includes an extra pedestrian path as well
marked off for walkers, roller bladers and runners.
Los Angeles beaches embrace the beach volleyball
game. There are beach volleyball courts on almost every beach in LA
County. The courts at Long Beach are located on the north side of the
beach.
This is a dog friendly beach. Dogs are
permitted off leash 6am-8pm in what the city calls “The Dog Zone”.
The Dog Zone encompasses nearly 3 acres at the water's edge between
Quincy and Argonne avenues. There are rules and regulations posted in
the parking lot off Ocean Blvd and are strictly enforced.
If you are interested in a picnic at the
beach and don’t want to deal with the sand, just up the coast
from Long Beach City Beach is Bluff park. It is a grassy area off of
Ocean Blvd, on the west side. The park has picnic tables and benches
with coastal views. There is also an ample supply of grassy areas, for
a nice beach picnic under a shady tree.
There is metered parking in the parking
lot and few spaces along Ocean Blvd for free. Overall Long Beach is
a difficult town to find parking along the beach. If you don’t
manage to park in the lot, beach access can be difficult. If you are
determined to make this your destination, arrive early or bring your
walking shoes.
