Dockweiler Beach is located at the edge
of LA international airport off of Vista del Mar Boulevard and Imperial
Avenue. The beach is unique in that it is literally directly behind
the airport. You can crash out under the sun on a sandy beach and gaze
up to watch plane after plane fly over head. It’s definitely not
the most tranquil beach, but a fun one nonetheless.
The three mile long shoreline has most
of what you would come to expect beaches in Los Angeles to have; lots
of sandy places to lay out, volleyball courts, fun surf, a great bike
lane for cycling, roller blading, jogging or even just an easy coastal
stroll.
This is a terrific place to launch your
hang glider. The beach can get windy and has plenty of room to soar.
There are designated flight areas for beginners and intermediate hang
gliders.
Dockweiler has a substantial picnic area,
a playground for the kids, fire rings for beach barbecues and California
fishing opportunities at the jetties on the north end of the beach.
This is a clean beach with easy access. This beach would be ideal for
a family outing or a beach party.
Dockweiler beach has a large parking lot
which charges $5.00 a day. This is the only place to park near the beach
but there are numerous spaces available. If you are willing to walk
there is a free parking area close by along Vista del Mar Boulevard.
These spaces are limited and fill up quick.
