“May your blessings outnumber the shamrocks grow and may trouble avoid you wherever you go”
This is what every Irish and Irish at heart around the world wish each other. St. Patrick’s Day is basically a celebration of Ireland to honor the patron Saint of Ireland. But it is celebrated all over the world in big cities and small towns but not for what it actually meant, a day of spiritual regeneration and offering prayers to missionaries.
The day is looked upon by most in a different way; it is associated with everything green. Those who do not wear green clothes are pinched but with affection. Green has so much impact that people can go to the extent of dyeing the whole river and fountains.
St. Patrick’s Day is the biggest Irish festivals to commemorate the death of St. Patrick. In US too it is celebrated with same gusto and fervor, the tradition started way back in 1737 when the day was first celebrated in Boston, Massachusetts and the first official parade was held in New York City in 1766.
Now the celebration has grown manifold with 100 U.S cities holding St. Patrick’s Day Parades and gets huge response not only from the Irish descendant but also from Americans. Some US cities with huge Irish population wear a festive look. It seems you are in Ireland with everybody wearing green color clothes, enjoying Irish music and songs, savoring Irish food.
Children too have their share of fun and are indulged in activities like crafts, coloring and games. I too have great plans with my Irish friends and as the saying goes, on this day “everybody is Irish” no doubt it is very true.
