The Tushar Mountains are an impressive range of Volcanic Mountains in Southwestern Utah. Mt. Delano and Belknap both reach heights of over 12,000 feet. Mud Lake is reached either from Marysville or Beaver. Traveling from Beaver one heads east on Utah Highway 153 and then takes a right on the road heading to Big John Flat. This is an interesting dirt road that goes completely over the top of the Tushar Mountains before descending to Marysvale on the eastern side of the range. Mud lake itself is small almost insignificant lake that is passed just before reaching the crest of the Mountains. From Mud Lake the peaks of the Tushars are visible to the east- be sure to watch for mountain sheep in the area as they frequently spotted. Good camping can be found just before reaching Mud Lake at Sheepherder Flat or several miles before it at Big John Flat. While Mud Lake is not the most significant landmark it can be seen on the Fish Lake Forest Map and provides a good point of reference.
