St. Patrick’s Day: A Day with a Purpose

St. Patrick’s Day in US is the most awaited event after 4th Of July. There is no dearth of Irish-American population in US, through various ways they nurture and cherish their culture. Irish step dance schools are almost in all the cities of US which takes the youngsters closer to its rich cultural heritage.

Apart from the dance schools there are Irish theatres, Pubs and restaurants which keep you close to the Irish feel. St. Patrick’s in reality not days of fun and merry making, which off course people have misinterpreted. Christians leaders in Ireland have expressed their disillusionment regarding the secularization the day and strongly feel the festival should be considered and looked upon as church festival.

I think they are absolutely right but I think this is the only way you can keep days of religious importance alive in the hearts of the people especially youngsters. The day, St Patrick’s Day is declared as the church festival you will find it soon going into oblivion.

It should not be totally misinterpreted to that extent which is done now and should not deviate from its actual purpose. It should be observed as a day of spiritual regeneration and offering  prayers to missionaries worldwide.
