The Kings River in Arkansas twists its way from the steep country high
in the Boston Mountains of Madison County, cutting a narrow gorge through
sandstone, shale and limestone northward to the White River before it
finally flows into southern Missouri's Table Rock Lake. The River’s
most attractive features are found along its banks and bluffs. There
are numerous opportunities for paddlers to observe beautiful wild azaleas,
ferns and umbrella magnolias, and native Arkansas wildlife. This wonderful, scenic jewel among Arkansas rivers is a popular boating
destination. Best of all, it’s a river that paddlers of any level
can enjoy.
The headwaters area of the Kings River provides excellent hiking opportunities,
especially in the Kings River Falls Natural Area (a preserve of the
Arkansas Natural Heritage Commission). These idyllic little falls drop
about 6 feet over their water-sculpted ledge. Hikers can observe a great
many interesting plants in this area.
