The White River National Wildlife Refuge
is an important haven for migratory bird in the flood plain of the White
River near where it joins with the Mississippi River. It is also home
to one of the largest stretches of bottomland hardwood forests in Arkansas,
with numerous streams, sloughs and bayous, making it a rich and fertile
environment for countless types of flora and fauna, including 70 species
of trees.
There are many activities to enjoy at White River National Wildlife
refuge, including wildlife observation, hunting and fishing. A White
River National Wildlife Refuge canoe trip may reveal Bald Eagles, Black
Bears or Alligators. Anglers will be pleased with the results of any
White River National Wildlife Refuge Fishing Trip. Boats and ATV’s
are permitted subject to regulations providing they’re used for
the purpose of hunting or fishing. Camping sites are available in the
refuge, with a maximum 14-day limit.
