Eureka Springs Arkansas is built around the hot springs
and mountainous lake/river-rich landscape in a steep Ozark Mountain
valley, and has been premiere resort towns for over a century. Today
the Victorian architecture and winding have been made consciously quaint,
and are overrun with overpriced shops and bible-themed attractions,
but Eureka Springs is still a very pretty spot with lots to do.
Eureka Springs is known for its spas. The two best historic hotels in
the area, the Basin Park Hotel and the Crescent Hotel, have access to
excellent day-spas where guests can relax and enjoy massage, facials
and the areas famous steam baths. To get information on these resorts
or to make reservations go to www.basinpark.com or www.crescent-hotel.com.
The Eureka Springs area in Arkansas has two scenic rivers, one gorgeous
lake and a nice stretch of the Ozark Mountains in which to enjoy outdoor
adventures. There are ample opportunities for hiking, biking, camping,
fishing, boating, swimming, climbing and spelunking for visitors to
enjoy. The Kings River has 90 miles of navigable wilderness to explore,
and is one of only 5 north-flowing rivers in the United States.
The Riverview Resort 6 miles west of Eureka Springs on the White River
features comfortable lodging, guided fishing expeditions and boat rentals.
The beautiful 31,700-acre, 70-mile long Beaver Lake has nearly 500 miles
of coastline and the fishing here is great; the river is full of Catfish,
Warmouth and huge Striped Bass.
There are a number of absolutely fascinating caves to explore in the
Eureka Springs area. Whippoorwill Cave and Ozark Cave are favorites,
as is Eden Falls Cave and waterfall. The real crown jewel, however,
is the stunning Cosmic Cavern. The rock and mineral formations in this
surreal underground cathedral possess and eerie beauty that defies description.
Equally astounding are the pair of subterranean lakes where albino trout
and blind cave salamanders live in waters whose bottom has yet to be
discovered.
