Shady Lake

You can almost feel the woodland coolness and the smell of the lake waters even before you actually reach Shady Lake. Its an awesome place to camp that besides being peaceful has some really stunning scenery. The site is adjacent to the Caney Creek Wilderness area.

A highlight of the region is the sandy-beach swimming area on 25-acres of Shady Lake bang in the middle of nowhere. Located on the Howard-Scott county line in southwest Arkansas, Shady Lake has fishing, hiking and a playground besides of course swimming.

You could enjoy water activities in the swimming area that has a diving platform. You also have boats and fishing dock. Shady Lake offers group picnic shelter, swimming, fishing and hiking for exciting outdoors fun.

This popular recreational spot is well known for its nice shallow swimming area and pavilion with bathrooms and showers. Camp sites are generally located by running streams and are well tended and comfortable. There are play areas for children, solar powered hot showers and some great trails by the lake.

This is a great place that isn't very crowded or very developed. It is quiet and scenic and includes more than 90 campsites that do not really infringe on each other. Plus they readily access the swimming beach, playground, hiking trails, picnic shelter and the grass boat ramp.

Game fish like largemouth bass, catfish and sunfish species abound in the lake. Only rod-and-reel and pole fishing is allowed. Only electric motors may be used on boats. Shady Lake is an ideal bathing spot especially in the spring and fall. Irises and dogwoods are gorgeous in the spring while the fall colors beckon water lovers often until late October.
