These age-old cliff dwellings still stand
as a monument to their inhabitants, sturdy and secure despite being
constructed during much more primitive times. Currently, many Arizona
adventurers flock to Tonto National Monument to surround themselves
with the abandoned, eerie remnants of lost cultures.
The hikes and drives are well worth it. This is a rare chance to peer
backward to the thirteenth century while observing the natural beauty
that will remain a mainstay regardless of who comes and goes. The
former cliff dwellers have left behind several efficient tools and
crafts that are chronicled well in tours and hikes around the grounds.
Park rangers are eager to educate and assist.
