This Theater was built in 1929 to serve as vaudeville and a move house. The Fox was originally to be called "The Tower" but was changed to the Fox prior to opening. Opening night on April 11, 1930 turned out to be the biggest party in Tucson. With Congress Street closed and waxed for dancing, four live bands, a live radio broadcast and free trolley rides made it a night to remember.
Over time and changes in the downtown scenario, the theater closed in 1974. It was in January 2006 that the theater re-opened after remaining closed for 32 years. This was the outcome of the dedicated efforts of a group of citizens that wanted to have this beautiful piece of Southwestern Art Deco construction back in the forefront of the art world.
