Kartchner Caverns in Arizona offers people a chance to see a cave in an extremely well preserved state. The cave was purchased as an Arizona State Park in 1988. Because it is a fairly recently opened caves and unlike most of the older show caves has avoided a long history of fires, torches, candles and other damages.

To preserve Kartchner Caverns’ rock formations it is absolutely necessary to maintain the natural conditions of the cave. Even with 200,000 visitors a year and a dry desert climate outside, Kartchner Caverns were closed with airlocks and a special air conditioning system. The developing costs were $28 million.
