Toroweap (which is sometimes called Tuweep) is located on the northwest rim of the Grand Canyon in the remote Arizona Strip. Toroweap is a Paiute Indian term meaning "dry” or “barren valley". The spectacular view from Toroweap Overlook is breathtaking. It towers 3,000 vertical feet above the Colorado River and the remarkable the volcanic cinder cones and lava flows. The Lava Falls Rapid can also be seen from the overlook.

Toroweap is a rugged area that is perfect for Arizona camping. Reaching this amazing Grand Canyon attractions means driving for 2.5 hours on a primitive road to edge of the Grand Canyon. Looking out over the sheer, unfenced cliff allows visitors to see the Colorado River flowing below.

The Toroweap section of the North Rim is roughly 2.5 hours from civilization. There is also a year-round ranger station at Toroweap, located about 30 minutes from the rim. Permits are not needed to hike or to camp in the Toroweap Campground.
