Arizona, a state situated in the southwest United States is bordered by New Mexico, Utah, Nevada, California. It touches Colorado and has a 389-mile international border along the states of Sonora and Baja California in Mexico. Only 364 square miles of Arizona is covered by water making Arizona a pretty dry state and just a little wetter than New Mexico and Wyoming.
Arizona is most popular for the Grand Canyon (one of the seven natural wonders of the world), which is a destination for millions of visitors each year, but there are also hundreds of miles of scenic land having many other canyons large and small waiting to be explored. Many artificial lakes, formed by dams on the Salt and Colorado rivers, offer many recreational opportunities and a welcome relief from the summer heat. The major rivers are the Colorado River, Gila River, and Bill Williams River, while the major lakes include Lake Mead, Lake Havasu, Lake Mohave, Theodore Roosevelt Lake, San Carlos Lake and Lake Powell.
As Arizona is a land-locked state, there are no oceanfront beaches, but it has many beaches on lakes and in rivers and reservoirs.
